Privacy Policy
Certain is a family of exam-practice apps (“Certain: EPA 608 Practice Test” and the other “Certain: … Practice Test” apps) made by Delamain Labs (“we”). This policy explains what the apps collect, why, and what you can do about it. One policy covers every Certain app.
What we collect
No account is required. The app creates an anonymous identifier on your device when you first open it. It is not linked to your name, email address or phone number, because we never ask for them.
Your study progress. Which questions you have answered, how you answered them, your exam date and your daily goal are stored on your device. They are also backed up to our servers under your anonymous identifier so they can be restored if you reinstall the app. Nothing in a backup identifies you.
Explanations. When you answer a question wrongly, the app asks our server for an explanation. The request contains the question, its choices and the choice you picked, not anything about you. Explanations are generated with Anthropic’s Claude model and cached per question, so the same explanation is reused for every learner.
Purchases. “Remove ads” is a one-time purchase made through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details. RevenueCat, our purchase-processing provider, receives the store’s receipt and your anonymous identifier so the purchase can be restored on your other devices. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
Advertising. Until you remove ads, the app shows ads served by Google AdMob. Google and its advertising partners may collect your device’s advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location, device and app information and ad interactions to serve, measure and, where you allow it, personalise ads. On iOS, the app asks for permission before using the advertising identifier for tracking, and you can refuse. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app asks for your consent before any ad is requested, and you can change your choice at any time from You → Ad privacy options. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Crash and diagnostic data. The app stores (Apple and Google) and the advertising SDK may report crashes and basic device diagnostics to us and to Google. These reports contain no study data.
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, precise location or payment details, and we never sell personal information.
Why we process it
- To run the app: progress backup, explanations and purchase restoration (performance of a contract / legitimate interest).
- To fund the free app with advertising (consent where the law requires it, otherwise legitimate interest for non-personalised ads).
- To fix crashes (legitimate interest).
Who else receives data
| Provider | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Google LLC) | anonymous identifier, progress backups | sign-in and storage |
| Anthropic | the question and the choice you picked | generating explanations |
| RevenueCat | store receipt, anonymous identifier | purchases and restores |
| Google AdMob and its partners | advertising identifier, IP address, device information, ad interactions | advertising |
| Apple / Google | purchase and crash data | app distribution and payments |
Data may be processed in the United States. Where European law applies, transfers rely on the providers’ standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Progress backups are kept while your anonymous identifier exists. Deleting the app deletes the identifier from your device, and a reinstall starts a new one; the old backup is then unreachable, and we delete it on request and may delete backups that have not been written to for 24 months. Purchase records are kept as long as the store requires for restores. Advertising data is governed by Google’s retention periods.
Your choices and rights
- Ads: buy “Remove ads” in the You tab; on iOS refuse tracking in the prompt or in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; in the EEA, UK and Switzerland change your consent under You → Ad privacy options; on Android reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
- Delete your data: uninstall the app, or email us and we will delete the backup once we can match it to your device’s anonymous identifier.
- Depending on where you live (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and similar laws) you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your supervisory authority. Because we hold no identifying information, we may ask for the anonymous identifier to find your data.
Children
The apps prepare adults for professional and civic exams and are not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete the data.
Changes
We will post any change to this page and update the date above. Material changes are announced in the app.
